Pasture Walk at Kramer Farms LLC

Monday, October 25th, 12pm - 2pm

11190 Holland Glenwood Road, Holland, NY

Join Fay Benson, former dairyman and current Cornell Small Dairy Support Specialist; Katelyn Walley-Stoll, Farm Business Management Specialist; and Amy Barkley, Livestock and Beginning Farm Specialist, as they walk with the Kramers around their pastured dairy operation to learn about pasture compaction, late fall pasture management, transitioning from pasture to winter feeds, pasture economics, and winter cattle welfare considerations.

Kramer farms has been an Erie County community staple since the family entered the business in 1848. What started as 17 cows with John's grandparents has grown to 400-500 head on nearly 1200 acres. Since it's inception, the dairy has been pasture based, with 428 acres of pasture fenced in with permanent high tensile fence and 800 acres for growing crops. The farm has found this balance through the understanding of soil types, cow behavior, and operational needs.

Light refreshments will be provided. We plan to be standing or walking for most of the time, so please bring a folding a chair if you'd like one.

This event is free of charge, but your pre-registration will help us get accurate numbers for hand-outs and refreshments.

Register online at https://tinyurl.com/KramerPasture or by contacting Amy Barkley at 716-640-0844 or amb544@cornell.edu.
