Join South Central Dairy & Field Crops Team and Cayuga County Cooperative Extension Specialists for a corn silage dry-down clinic!
Our corn silage crop maturity is variable this year. To ensure harvest and preservation of the best crop possible we are holding a corn silage dry-down clinic. Bring in your field samples to test dry-matter. We will be using an NIR machine which allows rapid results.
The milk line advances toward the kernel tip with maturity. Once the kernel milk line begins to move down the kernel following the dent stage, the fields intended to be harvested for silage should be sampled for moisture.
To Collect Samples for Testing:
1.Corn should be dented and at or near 1/2 milk-line
2. Collect 4-6 stalks/field from inside field.
3. Label field with hybrid maturity & planting date so we can record it for comparison.
No registration needed.
