March 17, 2015Since the November storm, many farmers are in the rebuilding stage and are exploring alternative energy options. This workshop will inform attendees about what's available and the funding options for alternative energy on the farm.
Tom Hauryski, USDA REAP representative will discuss Farm Bill energy funding sources for farmers. REAP provides grants or a loan guarantee to agriculture producers and rural small businesses to help purchase renewable energy systems or make energy efficiency improvements.
Ryan Storke, owner of CEC Energy, will give examples of projects he has worked on in the past in western New York.
Tim Terry, Regional Dairy Strategic Planning Specialist for Cornell Cooperative Extension Harvest New York, will explain the options available for farmers interested in alternative energy in western New York.
John Hanchar from the Cornell Cooperative Extension Northwest New York Dairy Team will provide information on utilizing LED lighting in dairy barns.
A panel of farmers who use new energy sources on their farm, including wind, solar, and manure digesters, will complete the day's agenda.
