Milk Price Protection Program - New Dairy Protection Included in 2014 Farm Bill
Joan Sinclair Petzen, Farm Business Management
Northwest New York Dairy, Livestock & Field Crops
The Dairy Margin Protection Program (MPP) is slated to be implemented in October 2014. The 2014 Farm Bill eliminated the Dairy Price Support and Dairy Export Incentive Programs. Once the Margin Protection Program is up and running the Milk Income Loss Coverage (MILC) Program will be discontinued. The new MPP requires farmers to make decisions with respect to the level of coverage and amount of production they want to cover. The National Milk Producers Federation has followed the developments with the program closely. Link here for more details about the MPP and to learn about the coverage choices farmers will be making.
